Quick answer: Pro Lab's in-editor preview shows you exactly what your photo book, album, or print will look like before you order. With careful preview review and attention to the editor's quality warnings, you can be confident your printed result will look fantastic. This guide walks you through the complete pre-order quality checklist that successful customers follow.
Why your pre-order review matters
Unlike traditional print shops, Pro Lab gives you complete control over the design through our advanced editor. This means:
- ✅ What you see in the preview is what you get in print
- ⚠️ Quality issues you don't catch in preview will appear in print
- 📝 Your final approval at checkout is your design sign-off
Spending 10 extra minutes on a thorough preview review prevents disappointment and ensures the printed result delights you (and the recipient if it's a gift).
The complete pre-order checklist
Follow this checklist before clicking "Place Order." Each item takes 1-2 minutes and dramatically improves your chances of a perfect printed result.
✅ Step 1: Use original photos, never compressed copies
Why this matters: WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook compress photos to 100-300 KB — a tiny fraction of the original file size. When printed at larger sizes, these compressed copies appear soft, blurry, or pixelated.
What to do:
- Upload photos directly from your camera or phone gallery
- If you received photos via WhatsApp, ask the sender to share them as a document (not as a photo) — preserves the original
- iPhone users: use Photos app → Share → Save to Files to get the original
- Google Photos: click Download original (not the screen-optimised version)
- Avoid screenshots, WhatsApp-shared photos, or web-downloaded images
See How to Upload Photos to Pro Lab for details.
✅ Step 2: Heed every quality warning in the editor
Why this matters: Pro Lab's editor analyses every photo's resolution against your chosen print size. It flags potential issues with yellow warnings (borderline quality) and red warnings (will print poorly).
What to do:
- 🔴 Red warning → Always fix. Replace the photo with a higher-resolution version, use a different photo, or reduce the print size.
- 🟡 Yellow warning → Address for important photos. For centerpieces (cover, full-page spreads, key moments), replace with a sharper version. For minor inclusions, yellow is acceptable.
- ⚠️ Never ignore warnings on the cover photo — the cover is what everyone sees first.
Learn what each warning means in Photo Quality Warnings: Yellow & Red Alerts Explained.
✅ Step 3: Review every spread in the preview, not just the highlights
Why this matters: It's tempting to review only the cover and a few favourite spreads. But every page will be printed — every issue you skip is an issue that prints.
What to do:
- Click the Preview button in the editor (top-right)
- Scroll through every spread, from cover to back cover
- Check each spread for:
- Photo placement (is the subject centered correctly?)
- Photo cropping (are faces or key details cut off?)
- Layout balance (does the spread look intentional, not crowded or empty?)
- Text accuracy (typos, spelling, dates, names)
- Page numbers (if applicable)
- Don't rush this step. Treat each spread as if you were the recipient seeing it for the first time.
✅ Step 4: Zoom in on faces and important details
Why this matters: A photo that looks fine at the editor's default zoom may show issues when printed full-size — especially on faces, text, and fine details.
What to do:
- For each important photo, zoom in to 100% in the preview
- Check faces — are eyes sharp? Skin detail clear?
- Check text within photos (signs, captions, dates)
- Check edges and corners for accidental cropping
- Look for any blurriness or unusual artefacts
If zooming reveals issues that weren't visible at default zoom, those issues will print. Address them now.
✅ Step 5: Check the cover with extra care
Why this matters: The cover is the first impression — for you, the recipient, and anyone else who sees the book. Issues on the cover are the most noticeable.
What to do:
- Verify the cover photo is the best version (sharpest, best-exposed, well-composed)
- Check the cover title text for spelling and capitalisation
- Verify names, dates, and personalisation are correct
- Check the spine (if applicable) for text alignment and spelling
- Confirm the back cover design (if applicable)
Pro tip: Read the cover text out loud. Reading silently is more likely to miss typos than reading aloud.
✅ Step 6: Get a second pair of eyes
Why this matters: After working on a design for hours, your eyes become familiar with the layout and can miss obvious issues. Fresh eyes catch what you've stopped seeing.
What to do:
- Download the PDF preview from the editor
- Share the PDF with a family member, partner, or friend
- Ask them to look specifically for: typos, photo cropping issues, layout imbalance, and any "this looks off" reactions
- Take their feedback seriously — they're seeing the book the way a recipient will
This is the single most effective quality check, and it's free.
✅ Step 7: Verify spelling, names, dates, and any text
Why this matters: Text errors are the most common post-delivery regret — misspelled names, wrong dates, typos in captions. Once printed, they're permanent.
What to do:
- Spell-check every piece of text in the book
- Triple-check names — especially uncommon spellings, married vs maiden names, and family member names
- Triple-check dates — birthdays, anniversaries, event dates, year numbers
- Verify quotes, captions, song lyrics, or any text you've added
- If giving as a gift, verify the recipient's name spelling
Pro tip: Write down the key text (names, dates) on a separate note. Compare your note to what's in the preview. Mismatches stand out faster this way.
✅ Step 8: Review on a desktop or laptop (not just mobile)
Why this matters: Mobile screens are small and don't show layout balance accurately. Issues that are obvious on a 13" laptop are invisible on a 6" phone.
What to do:
- Final review must be on a desktop or laptop screen
- Maximise the editor window for the largest possible preview
- Mobile editing is fine for quick edits, but the final approval should always be on a larger screen
If you only have mobile access, download the PDF preview and view it full-screen on the largest device you can borrow.
✅ Step 9: Review under good lighting (yes, really)
Why this matters: A screen viewed in dim or harsh lighting can make subtle issues invisible — like slightly off colours, soft photos, or layout imperfections.
What to do:
- Review the preview in good ambient lighting (daylight if possible)
- Set your screen to 70-80% brightness — not max bright (which can wash out subtle issues)
- Avoid reviewing in dim rooms where issues blend together
✅ Step 10: Sleep on it before ordering
Why this matters: Designing a photo book is mentally tiring. After hours of work, decisions can feel "good enough" when they're actually not your best.
What to do:
- For important albums (weddings, anniversaries, premium gifts), don't order on the same day you finish designing
- Step away from the project for at least a few hours, ideally overnight
- Return with fresh eyes for a final preview review
- THEN place the order
This simple discipline catches more issues than any other technique.
If something goes wrong with your order
While the pre-order checklist above ensures most orders arrive perfectly, occasionally a delivery may have a manufacturing or transit issue. If your printed product arrives with:
- Manufacturing damage (torn pages, damaged binding, defective cover)
- Wrong product or wrong size shipped
- Visible damage from delivery (package crushed in transit)
…please contact us within 1-2 days of receiving the order at support@prolab.in with your order number, clear photos showing the issue, and a brief description. Our team will review each case individually and respond with the appropriate next steps.
Please note: Issues caused by design decisions in the editor are NOT eligible for replacement:
- ❌ Low-resolution photos you uploaded (the editor warns you in advance)
- ❌ Photo crops you chose in the editor
- ❌ Typos or text errors you missed in preview
- ❌ Change of mind or design preference after delivery
- ❌ Slight colour differences between screen and print (always some variance — see Print Colours Look Different from Screen)
- ❌ Sizing decisions you made (e.g. choosing 8x8" then wishing it was 12x12")
This is why thorough preview review matters. Your preview review is your final design sign-off.

- Arranges layouts based on photo content and orientation
- Sequences photos chronologically by default
- Balances spread compositions
After AI does its work, you still apply this checklist — but starting from a strong AI-designed foundation means fewer issues to catch.

Frequently asked follow-up questions
What if I notice an issue right after ordering but before shipment?
Contact us immediately at support@prolab.in or +91 99803 99806. Production usually starts very quickly because Pro Lab operates as a single in-house location:
- Orders placed during working hours (Mon–Sat, 10 AM – 6 PM IST): cancellation requests must be received within 30 minutes of placing the order.
- Orders placed outside working hours, on Sundays, or on public holidays: cancellation requests must be received within 1–2 hours after working hours resume on the next working day.
After these windows, production has typically begun and changes are generally not possible.
Can I make changes after my order is in production?
Once production starts, changes are generally not possible because materials are already being printed and bound. This is why thorough preview review before ordering is essential.
Will the colours in my print exactly match what I see on screen?
There will always be some variance between screen and print because screens emit light while paper reflects it. Pro Lab uses professional colour management to minimise this, but expect prints to look slightly less saturated than your screen. This is normal and not a defect. Learn more: Print Colours Look Different from Screen.
What if my printed product arrives with a manufacturing issue?
Contact support@prolab.in within 1-2 days of receiving the order with your order number, clear photos of the issue, and a brief description. Our team will review the case individually and respond with appropriate next steps. (Issues caused by design choices made in the editor — low-resolution photos, typos, crop selections, or slight screen-to-print colour variance — are not eligible. This is why thorough preview review matters.)
